How to Use a Tyre Deflator with a Pressure Gauge

What this clip demonstrates
This demonstration explains the valve-core tyre deflator: fitting the tool, releasing air while monitoring the gauge, and securing the valve again. It is a tool lesson, not a recommendation to use one pressure for every vehicle or dune drive.
Tyre preparation belongs at the meeting point, before the convoy enters the sand. The pressure decision depends on the vehicle, tyre and wheel setup, load, terrain and the advice of a qualified leader who can inspect the actual setup.

Before you try it on the trail
- Bring a reliable gauge, your deflator and an inflation method.
- Agree the target for your actual vehicle with the drive leader.
- Keep valve caps and the tool clean and accounted for.
Important: This is not a universal PSI guide. Follow the tyre, vehicle and tool instructions; stop if a valve or tyre is damaged or leaking.
What the demonstration covers
The video describes removing the valve cap, attaching the deflator to the valve stem, using the tool to disengage the valve core, and operating its sleeve to release air. The gauge is used to follow the pressure change rather than estimating it from the time spent deflating.
To finish, the airflow is stopped and the valve core is threaded back into place before the tool is removed. Follow the instructions for your particular deflator: tools do not all use identical knobs or sleeves. Check the result with a reliable gauge and replace the cap.
Choose a target before releasing air
Do not copy a pressure just because it appears in a video or because another vehicle is using it. An appropriate setting for one combination of tyres, wheels and load may be unsuitable for another. Ask your instructor or drive leader to explain the choice for your vehicle, and keep checking how the tyres behave during the drive.
Prepare an inflation method before leaving the road. Reduced off-road pressure is not a highway setting. Allow time at the exit to restore the vehicle manufacturer’s specified road pressure for the current load, and investigate a tyre that will not hold pressure.

Why use the gauge rather than count seconds?
The gauge measures the pressure remaining in the tyre. Deflation time alone is not a reliable way to reproduce a chosen pressure.
