Radio Use
Save an Authorised Frequency on a Baofeng UV-5R
Video overview
What this clip demonstrates
This lesson shows the difference between entering a frequency and saving it into the UV-5R’s channel memory. The documented sequence uses MEM-CH, selects a memory slot and returns to memory mode. Only save and use settings authorised for your operation.
The original description places the demonstration in Sweihan. Programming the radio in advance can reduce keypad work at a meeting point, but the exact radio model and all communication settings still need to be checked.

Before you try it on the trail
- Confirm the exact model and read its memory-channel instructions.
- Obtain the authorised communication configuration.
- Check existing memory slots and test the saved settings lawfully before departure.
Important: Saving a frequency does not authorise transmitting on it. Check TDRA requirements and all radio parameters, not just the displayed number.
What the memory demonstration covers
The video description outlines entering the frequency, opening the menu’s MEM-CH function, selecting a memory slot, saving and finding the result in MR mode. Use the model-specific manual alongside the film rather than assuming every Baofeng has the same menu or storage behaviour.
The manufacturer’s documentation is important if a slot already contains data or the radio has separate transmit and receive settings. Do not erase existing channels casually. A displayed frequency alone does not verify every saved parameter, and a matching channel number on another radio is not proof that the configurations match.
Agree lawful settings before programming
Have the authorised communication configuration confirmed before storing it. TDRA rules and equipment approval apply even when the radio is used recreationally in a desert convoy. This page does not supply an unverified UAE channel list or treat an example from a film as permission to transmit.
Once the configuration has been checked, test the communication plan while stationary and retain a reference to the authorised settings. Combine appropriate radio communication with Navra’s trip and location context where useful. Live convoy updates need internet connectivity and are not a replacement for voice communication or an emergency plan.

About this Ventrax video
Does channel 1 mean the same frequency on every radio?
No. A memory number identifies a stored configuration on that radio. Compare the authorised settings and test compatibility before the drive.
Can I copy the programming sequence to every Baofeng model?
Do not assume so. Consult the exact model’s manual; menu options and memory behaviour can vary.
